I know it’s been a while, and some of you are getting tired of seeing the same old headline for the last two months. Truth is, now that I’m back to work full time, life is busy and I really don’t feel like updating this blog every few days. Seriously, who wants to read about my work day? I get up in the morning at 5:45, come home after work, eat, sleep, and do it again. Ok, it’s not quite that monotonous, but it’s definitely not the kind of thing I’d write about often.
However, I don’t want to give the impression that we haven’t been doing anything. In October, Jen and I went up to the Sierras with her parents and stayed in that same cabin where we stayed for our anniversary (thanks again to Darcy and Mr. and Mrs. Hall!). The weather was just as unusual…we had rain, wind, and sunshine.
Here’s Jen and her dad down on the dock:

Here are the four of us on the deck overlooking the lake:

We took some sightseeing drives around the area, which is chock-full of history. Donner Summit and Donner Lake are nearby, so we stopped at the local museum to hear about the Donner party and cannibalism. Here’s a picture of Jen and I at an outlook over Donner Lake:

When we got home, we realized that the season for little critters was upon us. One evening, I saw a gray flash near the bottom of the refrigerator. We spent at least an hour trying to catch the mouse, but it evaded us and escaped to the adjacent laundry room. I then made a trip to the hardware store and picked up a few mouse traps. The old-fashioned ones work great…just smear some peanut butter on them and you’re good to go:

Jen and I attended the annual pumpkin-carving party with a few of her coworkers. Some of these people are pretty serious about their carving. I usually stick with the basics: cut off the top, scoop out the guts, and cut eyes and a mouth. Here’s my favorite from that evening (way to carve, Patty!):

I’ve also been doing some mountain biking in my free time. I managed to ease back into it without any crashes…almost. Fortunately, I wasn’t going very fast at the time. In fact, I was in the parking lot. I was doing a wheelie and pulled up a little too hard, and couldn’t get my feet unclipped from my pedals in time to prevent myself from falling over backwards. I got mad bike skillz, yo.

In real health news, I had a follow-up CT scan a couple of weeks ago to find out whether the blood clot had dissolved. Short story shorter, it has. I’m clot free and off the blood thinner medication. Everything else is looking relatively normal. My blood counts are getting back up to normal.
That’s all for now. I know Jen wants to post a picture of us with our Christmas tree, but we haven’t taken that picture yet, so you’ll have to wait.
Glad to know you are living the good life of a working couple. Life has been busy here. Fall zoomed by and here we are now surrounded by ice, snow and the holidays just around the corner. Ty finished up his football season. He has decided to go to the University of Nebraska at Kearney and hopefully play football there. He had what we hope to be, his last leg surgery. The rod and screws were removed from the femur. He ended up with a few complications but he now has full clearance and is well healed. Jen is wrapping up with finals next week and looking forward to coming home for a while. Paul is busy, leaving me a basketball widow……actually that means more reading by the fire and cocoa for me! Grandpa and Grandma Stock arrive next week for Christmas. It should be delightful!
Glad you are enjoying a healthy retreat from the health care whirlwind. We continue to hold you both in our prayers.
Peace,
Aunt Dianne
Wahoo! A post! A post! With ghastly pictures and all!
YEAH A NEW POST!!!!! FINALLY!
i could’ve done without the dead mouse pic, finally figured out the pumpkin was dora and saw that knarly scab in real life and didn’t need to see it twice! ugh. killing me…
thanks for the update-i always love getting your perspective on stuff
Glad to see a post! We would still read whatever you write no matter what it is. Just glad that things are going well!
Loved the pic of the mouse, I bet you posted that to freak Rose out huh? HAHA
Can’t wait to see pics of the Christmas Tree!
Glad to hear you are OK. I worry about you sometimes back in the depths of the office. Give yourself credit though, your workday is much more interesting. What level of Tetris are you up to now? (does Joyce read this? If so, I’m commenting from home… and this is Tim Hawkins)
I know how you like your peanut butter – I hope you were able to get some of that back. It doesn’t look like the mouse ate much. I think you should use your photoshop skills and update the mouse photo for holidays, events, vacation pictures, etc. I want to see him next to you in the Christmas tree picture wearing a little santa hat. Can you do that?
“Does God think it is ok to squish mouse’s like that, cuz momma you don’t even like it when daddy kills the spiders?”
Momma’s response
“That is a good question for your buddy Todd”
Merry Christmas you two. We look forward to seeing the Christmas tree shots

Man it is about time. Lena was gonna be walking before a new one came up, talking perhaps. BTW the other front teeth are cutting through as I write, she is in the other room screaming for me to fix them. At least she doesn’t have a hillbilly smile anymore.
Nice “battle scar”. I am glad I am not the only smart guy that rides wheelies with his feet still clipped to the pedals. What a cute mouse you have, what is its name? Karen says your sick. That could be its name “Sick”.
Thanks for stopping by the other night, we really enjoyed your company.
If we do not see you, have a wonderful Christmas and warmest wishes and prayers for you in the coming year.
Much Love
Sean Karen and Lena
Merry Christmas Smiths! Glad to hear things are going well!
Andrea
P.S. I’d much rather see a picture of you in front of the tree than a dead mouse or a scab.
