A few posts back, I said that there would surely be more regular updates. Yeah…..I was wrong. I’ll start with the actual health news.
We finally got all the results back from my bone marrow biopsy/aspiration and had long conversations with Dr. Sayegh here in Sacramento and Dr. Miklos at Stanford. The results indicate that there is only about 12-15% marrow involvement, in comparison to about 30% when we went for transplant last year in May. This means that there is less disease present in my bone marrow now than at the same time last year. Dr. Miklos thinks this is due to the total lymphoid irradiation I received as part of the transplant process.
Neither doc could conclude that we needed to move ahead with another transplant right now, even though we have a donor who is a perfect match. From a medical perspective, I’m fairly healthy except for that 12-15% disease presence. The only reason to move forward right now is to get it over with, and that’s not necessarily a good reason, given the risks involved. Both docs said they would support us if we decided to go for it again this year, but couldn’t say with confidence that we should. Through the last few months, Jen and I have been talking about the feeling of being in control of our lives and the contrasting reality that we really aren’t. As much as we want to be done with CLL and the next transplant, the truth is that we don’t feel like it’s the right time. We haven’t heard God telling us to go ahead, and we don’t want to take action without His direction. So, we are waiting until either we get that direction, or there is evidence of disease progression. Yes, disease progression could be that direction.
Other than that, we haven’t been up to much. I planted three trees in the yard, and have slowly been working to get the garage into a state of organization that would allow at least one car to be parked inside. At some point this summer I will build a shed in the side yard. Pictures to follow eventually.
Wow Todd that is great news!!I think I would put it on hold also!Get on with enjoying life while you can!
Praying for God’s Direction in this!

Glad to see another post. Those red walls were getting to me
Glad you changed the color.
Lena is getting more and more into everything. She now can get up onto the chairs (and fall off). Oh yeah she can hit me now, “alright who taught her that”. Oh yeah, I do all horsin’ around. Loves to play in the sprinkler and then the dirt. Isn’t it better to play in the dirt then the sprinkler? Well in any case it gets muddy. I think she knows it bugs me, so….it is what it is. Oh yeah, dirt (soil/mudd) is very appealing to her palate it seems. We are to do another trip with her to North Dakota at the end of the month, hopefully she will behave.
Need help/tools for the shed……………………..let me know.
Ciao for now
Sean
Hi Todd @ Jenn
We were delighted to get this update on your health. It must be great to almost feel normal again. Todd, your folks were up for 2 days and we went to a Dinner Playhouse. We saw “Fiddler on the roof” and had a nice dinner. Your Dad tries to keep us up to date on what goes on with you and Jenn. Anyhow, we were happy to get this update. Our prayers have almost been answered!! A BIG HI to Jenn. We love you both,
Grandpa and Grandpa Stock
Always hard to know the right direction to go. Listening with a prayerful heart is always best.
I am out in Colorado taking my turn helping care for Dad. He is on a long recovery from a complicated surgery last March. He is still living with my brother but makes slow gains to a goal of increased independence. We went to the cabin for an overnight and will try it again this weekend. I know it feels good to be in your own bed, he just isn’t safe to be alone yet.
Our Jen lives year round in Kearney now. Ty will join her up there in the fall. We will officially be empty nesters.
Uncle Paul has been busy with his Holocaust and Freedom Writer’s work. He comes back to LA again in mid July.
I have no pickle stories for you yet this year as we are in the flooding midwest, so we will have a late harvest, although the apple tree appears to be giving a bumper crop.
Hope you planted a fruit tree. I know I love ours!!
A wise pastor I know once advised in marriage counseling that when it comes to the home men generally get to decide a few things about the yard, lots about the garage and after that the answer is whatever color you like dear…….so pick your shed choices wisely Todd, it’s your last chance!
Enjoy your summer. Hug each other.
Peace,
Aunt Dianne
